The 15,000 sq ft store will officially open at 9am, when the The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons, will cut the ceremonial ribbon, alongside Wilkinsons’ chief executive, Stuart Mitchell and assistant store manager, Nathan Morrow.

The lucky first 50 shoppers through the doors will be treated to a Wilkinsons’ own brand goody bag, packed full of products from the store.

Wythenshawe’s own Polyphonic Brass Band will be attending the store to celebrate the launch and entertain shoppers, by performing a selection of Rat Pack songs and show tunes throughout the morning.

To raise funds for Age UK, Wilkinsons’ charity of the year, which provides care and support for elderly people in the community, volunteers from the organisation will host an opening day charity raffle. Shoppers will be in with a chance of winning a jam-packed hamper full of Wilkinsons’ cleaning essentials, including air fresheners, mops, sprays and antibacterial wipes.

Nathan said: “Opening a new store in Wythenshawe is an exciting prospect for Wilkinson, the launch day is set to be a fun packed event.

“With our great value, high quality product ranges and our focus on providing excellent customer service, we feel that we have a great deal to offer shoppers in the area.

“The whole team has worked tirelessly to ensure everything is perfect for opening day. We are looking forward to welcoming customers through the doors and we hope they will enjoy the new shopping experience.”

The celebrations will continue on Saturday 17th September, when a face painter will be in store between 10am and 4pm, to transform children into a variety of colourful creatures.

Wilkinsons has also sponsored the Garden City Festival and will join in the fun when balloon modellers will entertain children with fun and colourful creations. Children will also have the opportunity to create collages and drawings in the Wilkinsons’ arts and crafts zone, using glitter, glue and crayons, which have been donated by the store.
