The pupils were invited to receive their awards at a celebration evening held in the Alan Turing Building at the University of Manchester.

The event was organized by The Ogden Trust, which aims to encourage more pupils to study physics at university by funding physics related activities for groups of schools within one of their partnerships. Saint Paul’s is a member of the Manchester and Salford Partnership.

Saint Paul’s, the first school in Manchester to be awarded specialist status for Engineering, has a distinctive science and engineering ethos running throughout the school and is very keen to inspire and engage the pupils in Science and Engineering.

After a delicious buffet at the university, guests listened to a most enjoyable and informative talk on Astrophysics, given by Dr. Tim O'Brien of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. This was followed by the presentation of certificates to the pupils.

Mrs Nuala Wilson, Head of Science at Saint Paul’s congratulated the pupils on receiving their well-deserved awards. “We appreciate your commitment and contribution to Science, you have all worked hard to achieve a Physicist of the Term award and our school has benefited from your dedication and input.”

Mrs Wilson added: “These young people have worked extremely hard and deserve both praise and recognition for their efforts.”

“We congratulate all our students on their awards,” said Mr Wiktor Daron, Head Teacher at Saint Paul’s. “We are very proud of them and have been very impressed with the way they have dedicated themselves to achieving so much”

“Involvement with events such as this is a great way for us to encourage our pupils to enjoy science and to see the subject as both interesting and accessible,” explained Mr Wiktor Daron, Head Teacher at Saint Paul’s. “Working with The Ogden Trust encourages those pupils who aspire to continue with their studies at university, particularly those who are interested in science.”
