Despite conducting extensive enquiries, officers have been unable to find the owner(s) of several items of jewellery, including rings and bracelets.

Read more...Officers believe that the items, which were seized after officers raided a property on Cornishway, Wythenshawe on 1st September, may belong to somebody in the area.

Man Injured Outside Pub

A man sustained extensive head injuries during after being punched and stamped on the head outside a pub in Northenden.

The victim was at the Farmers Arms public house on Longley Lane on Tuesday 6 September 2011. He had spent the evening with friends who later left and he continued drinking on his own.

Whilst inside the pub he had a disagreement with staff over a drink and the offender got involved.

He then left the pub on his own.

Outside, the offender started arguing with the victim and then punched him at least twice in the face and head before knocking him to the floor. The offender then stamped on his head at least twice before making off on foot towards Sale.

The offender is described by witnesses as white, about 5ft 7 in to 5ft 8 in tall of average build with a shaved...

 

Local MP Praises Police Response to Rioting

Read more...Local MP Paul Goggins has praised local police officers for their brave and timely action in Wythenshawe on the day of the riots in Manchester and Salford.

He met a number of the officers during a visit this week to Wythenshawe Police Station and accompanied them to Civic Centre in support of the appeal by Greater Manchester Police for information about those involved in the riots (pictured).

Paul Goggins said: “Some of the officer went to Salford and Manchester City Centre to help deal with the violence there. Others remained in Wythenshawe and dealt with a large group who were threatening to create disorder in the town centre. Their brave actions prevented serious damage from taking place.”

E-fits of Men Who Tried to Lead Boy Away

Read more...Officers in south Manchester are investigating after two men tried to lead a boy away from his mother.

Detectives have released an e-fit of the men responsible.

Shortly before 1.30pm on Saturday 15 August 2011, a 21-year-old woman was walking the path on Dinmor Road, Woodhouse Park, with her two-year-old son.

Her son was walking behind her while she pushed his buggy when they walked past two men near to St Anthony's primary school.

One of the men took hold of her son by the hand and asked him to walk with him.

The woman heard the man, turned around and shouted so the man let go of the boy and both men laughed and ran off towards Portway.

The man who took the boy by the hand is described as white, 5ft...

 

Pensioner Suffers Broken Hand Following Robbery

A thief snatched a bag belonging to a Wythenshawe pensioner.

Sometime between 2.15am and 2.35am on Saturday 13 August 2011, a 68-year-old woman was nearing her home on Highnam, Walk, Woodhouse Park, having been at a friend’s house.

The offender approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag.

Following a brief struggle, in which the woman’s fingers were bent backwards, the thief ran off with the bag towards Painswick Park.

He is described as being between 5ft6in and 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and dressed in dark clothing.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to a broken hand.

The bag and contents minus some cash from the woman’s purse was found hidden in bushes outside a house on Painswick Road.

Three Men Sentenced For Unprovoked Attack in Benchill

Read more...Three men have been sentenced for an unprovoked attack on a teenager that was filmed by the Greater Manchester Police helicopter as it flew over.

Simon Starrs (born 26/03/1988) of Hondford Road, Benchill, was jailed for five years for section 18 assault.

Sean Cummins (born 05/07/1988) of Sommerby Drive, Woodhouse Park, was jailed for three years four months for section 18 assault. William Reilly (born 04/05/1985) of Altcar Walk, Woodhouse Park, received a 12 month suspended sentence for violent disorder. All three were sentenced today, Monday 8 August 2011, at Manchester Crown Square.

On Friday 22 October 2010, Reilly, Starrs and Cummins had been drinking in pubs in Benchill and went onto a party in the Royal Oak...

 

Man Jailed for Park Rape

Read more...A man who attacked and raped a woman in a park has been jailed.

Musawenkosi Ncube (born 12/08/1992), of Rawpool Gardens, Royal Oak, was convicted of rape following a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square.

He has been jailed on the 5 August 2011, for an indeterminate sentence for public protection and must serve a minimum of five and a half years in prison before he is even eligible for parole.

Ncube raped his victim, 39, in Wythenshawe Park on Sunday 19 December 2010.

At about 7.40am, the woman was walking along Altrincham Road in order to get a bus into the city centre where she works when Ncube grabbed her from behind, twisted her arm and putting his hands around her neck...

 

Police Issue Bogus Workmen Warning

Police are warning residents living in south Manchester to be on the lookout for bogus workmen following a spate of incidents over the past few months.

Men in vans have been attending homes that have old or rundown sheds and garages and offering to take them down and replace them with new ones.

In all of the incidents, the builders have told residents that they will only accept cash and have offered to accompany residents to the bank to withdraw the money

Once the old garage or shed is demolished, the builders have taken the money and disappeared leaving no contact number or receipt.

PC Steve McGonigle said: “This is a despicable scam, which leaves residents out of pocket and without a shed or garage to replace their old one.

Police in Northenden, Brooklands and Baguley have teamed up with Parkway Green Housing Trust to tackle burglary.

Officers from Parkway Green Housing Trust are visiting tenants who fall victim to burglary along with members from the Northenden Neighbourhood Policing Team to offer crime prevention advice and make security improvements to homes.

Parkway Green staff will carry out joint visits to their tenants to help identify where they can install security measures such as exterior lighting, fencing, hedge removal and window shock alarms.

As part of their daily tasks Parkway Green staff will hold estate walkabouts and target hotspot areas with the police to identify vulnerable properties and deter offenders from committing crime. As part of this they also carry out property inspections and...
